How Do I Choose a Big Size Brass Kudam?

“Big size brass kudam.”

That sounds specific until you try to buy one.

How big is big?

This is where many buying conversations become unnecessarily complicated. Big is a description, not a measurement.

If you are buying a large brass kudam for a temple, Kumbabhishekam, pooja requirement or bulk order, get the actual dimensions and weight.

What should “big size” mean?

At minimum, ask for:

Height
Maximum diameter
Opening diameter
Capacity, if relevant
Approximate weight
Number of pieces

A photograph can help you understand the shape. It cannot reliably tell you the weight.

And weight matters when you are comparing brass products.

Bigger is not automatically better

A large kudam is useful only if it suits the job.

If it is being used for a ritual, the required size may be determined by the temple’s or organisers’ actual requirements. In that situation, don’t choose a vessel simply because it looks impressive.

Ask the priest, temple authority or organiser what specification is required.

For general decorative or household use, capacity and handling may matter more.

Why weight should be recorded

Imagine two large kudams sitting next to each other.

Both look substantial.

One weighs 4 kg and another weighs 6 kg.

They are not the same product just because both sellers call them “big”.

When requesting a quotation, ask:

“What is the approximate weight per piece?”

That one question can save a surprising amount of confusion.

What about capacity?

Capacity is useful when the vessel has a practical job.

For example, if you need the kudam to hold a particular amount of water, saying “large” is much less useful than saying the approximate capacity you need.
